Sometimes my abstract paintings are read as landscapes, maybe they contain a subconscious reflection of the abstract beauty I see in natural environments. Many of my paintings start with random marks, then my subconscious connects with a visual language transforming those marks into an abstract painting. Using Mud Maps was part of my job as a bush regenerator and these sometimes find their way into my paintings. These mud maps have links to the aerial views I have always enjoyed at the same time they have a natural rawness which suits my abstract style and makes them uniquely Australian paintings.
