2021 paintings

2021 Many of these works are on paper (a logical medium) because of the volume of work I was making, my Post Graduate studies at UNSW: Art and Design also had an influence during the 1st half of 2021.

This was a period of freedom to experiment, with Covid isolation and the end of my UNSW Art and Design studies. My UNSW capstone project, 10 Oil Dots was exhibited at gaffa Gallery in Sydney. During the first half of 2021, I made 160 paintings, many A3 (30x42cm) on paper but I also used canvas, poly-cotton and wood. The work over this period incorporates themes and motifs, linking back to my earlier artworks while continuing my fusion of art processes: Post Minimalism, Non-Objective, Abstract, found object, by-product, chance and random. This reinforces my general theme ‘Variety’ which, I feel, links my work to nature. The painting ‘Once Was’ is a reworking of an unsold Oil Dot painting from the Capstone exhibition, and as is often the case with me, the work I make on the side while preparing for the exhibition or the one I re-working after the exhibition, carries more freedom and depth.
