2016 saw an exponential development in my art, presented here in three sections – 1)Sydney and painting full-time – 2)the after exhibition freedom and packing – 3)my 30×30 Cooroy exhibition
Sydney Studio
In October 2016 I moved Sydney and into my St Leonards studio beginning painting full-time. It felt like I was bringing together my assorted explorations with various processes and materials. Another feature of this year was spending 5 isolated days over Christmas camping at Tia Falls, with its spectacular gorges, waterfalls and rocks, it was a time for relaxing, exploring and drawing.

My after exhibition freedom
The following paintings and drawings were made while still on the sunshine coast before September 2016 This was a year of big changes for me, finishing full-time work and packing to move to Sydney, the paintings below reflect that transition. My painting shows a freedom where nothing seems to matter and my subconscious takes over. Also stopping work gave me more time to draw some of the unique features of the Sunshine Coast.

30×30 exhibition at the Cooroy Butterfactory Arts Centre in March
The abstract paintings below have parallels with the processes I was observing in nature; layers on layers, often starting with chance or random marks. The processes I use in my art reflect the intricate multi-layered systems I was observing in natural areas, where the colours and marks I use respond to what has gone before, often covering and blending to produce new and unexpected compositions.
